Hi, I enjoyed your conversation about this issue a lot. I have all the Severin drawn issues and they are a big favourite of mine. Something that didn’t come across is that Marie is pencilling these issues and John is inking. He brought a lot to how great it looks, but several of the things you liked were down to Marie’s compositions and sense of the dynamic. As to the Romita alterations on the cover, I think it could be Marcina’s face and (very oddly) Kull’s torso. Kull looks bulked up on the cover compared to inside and the lines look Romita-ish to me. You were supposing this was 23 or 24 pages in length, but it’s a very trim 20 pages of story. Anyway, I enjoy your show. It seems to me that S&S has had a revival in comics over the last decade so I wonder if you’ll be reading any more recent comics as you proceed.
David! Thanks for listening to the pod. You are correct as I later learned I had the roles of the Severin’s flopped thinking John was the penciler. I’ll be sure to correct the mistake on an upcoming episode. They are an incredible team. Her pencils are amazing and their work overshadows every other art team that follows on the character. To answer your question (again I will address on an episode soon) there will be some more modern comic coverage. I do have plans to cover “Hawk the Slayer” by Garth Ennis which isn’t exactly a current book but it is somewhat recent. I’ve been asked about “Barbaric” and “Headlopper” by folks. Did you have any suggestions or anything you think would be cool to cover?
